Danny Boyle, the director of Trainspotting, released his film 28 Days Later (2002) at the start of the new millennium. A young Cillian Murphy (from the upcoming Netflix movie Steve) played a bike courier who awakens from a coma to discover that almost everyone has been killed out by a virus. What’s left is a group of violent, virus-infected individuals known as “the infected.” In the decades that followed, a number of zombie movies and television series were introduced by the post-apocalyptic horror movie.
Among them was Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s sequel, 28 Weeks Later (2007). About six months after the Rage Virus struck, Jeremy Renner, Rose Byrne, and Robert Carlyle were among the crew members left stranded.

Boyle’s first installment was released more than 20 years ago, and now we have 28 Years Later. Boyle and Garland haven’t worked together on a movie since Sunshine in 2007. Ralph Fiennes, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and newcomer Alphie Williams were all brought in by the director. Taylor-Johnson plays a father teaching his young son (Williams) how to survive in this relatively new world order, where the infected roam just beyond their shores. The horror film is set on a remote English island. Don’t worry if you missed it in theaters—at least not until you see it—because it’s currently available for viewing.
In ’28 Years Later,’ an infected person strolls through a field of flowers.
